Here is what I played this week:
I played a solo game of Aeon's End for the first time to learn the game so I can teach it to others. I had heard a lot of good things about this game and it didn't disappoint. There isn't really a lot of new things here in this deck-building game but it's all put together in an interesting way. The game was very close! I was sure that the city was going to fall for a few turns in a row but got some luck and managed to pull off the win. I think the game does an excellent job of promoting cooperative play in a deck-building game but I really do miss shuffling my cards though.
Lots more Just One and it continues to make us laugh. This week saw us pause the game and our laughter to talk about some of the more distressing and serious parts of life.
Nimble is a speedy pattern-building game that makes your brain cramp. I find the more we play this game the worse I get - which only makes me want to play it more. There is always lots of laughing when we play this one.
I taught my 5-year-old niece, Slamwich and she really enjoyed it. I found it a hard one to explain - you have to watch for two of the same cards come up, with something different in between... hard to explain to a 5-year old. Thankfully they adapt and learn quickly. We started with just the food cards and slowly added the other cards into the each game so as not to overwhelm her with rules explanation. I can't wait to play this again with her to see how she does.
Cobra Paw is one of my niece's favourite games. We play a lot slower than we do when we play with just adults but it's so much fun to see her recognize the pattern on the dice and get her pieces. And it always amazes me when I'm still looking for the piece and she grabs it before I saw it. She's defineatly getting better at this game the more we play it.
