Board Game Review: 14 Frantic Minutes
by Chris Cormier
We played 14 Frantic Minutes for the first time this weekend. Now, I don't normally love the real-time strategy games. Honestly, I find them too stressful and I can't think straight when under pressure.

But WOW! This game was so much FUN! It takes just a few minutes to learn and exactly 14 minutes to play. It's a speed game where players work together to make connections on a central board using polyomino shaped pieces before time runs out.
The puzzles get progressively harder as the game goes on but you can win special pieces that will help you solve future puzzles.
I think the difference with 14 Frantic Minutes is there seems to be a few different ways to solve most of the randomly selected boards. Which makes it fair cuz you have to go thru a number of them to win.
The replayability seem virtually endless.
Don't get me wrong, it is still VERY difficult to solve. In fact we played several games in a row and lost far more than we won - which is what I want in a cooperative game.

Familiarity will help as each player has their own pieces to look after and help the group with. In fact, part of the challenge is that you aren't allowed to move or touch the other players pieces while you work together trying to figure out how put the pieces together.

14 Frantic Minutes comes with so many different boards and randomized set-up cards that make replayability seem virtually endless.
The game is for 1-4 players, takes just 14 minutes and is intended for ages 8 and up. Designed by fellow Canadians Sylvain Plante and Joe Slack and is published by Crazy Like a Box. Check it out!
